She had a habit of snacking when she was nervous — especially in the days leading up to exams or during the long nights spent in the library, buried in books at a quiet table.

Elise made her way through the halls, slipped between the heavy wooden doors, and found a secluded desk by the window. She often lost track of time when she studied, so she made an effort to sit somewhere that would remind her when darkness fell outside. As she dropped her satchel from her shoulders into the empty chair, she realized — too late — that it hadn't been fully closed. Great. Now lemon drops were scattered everywhere.
